Andrew Tyrie, MP for Chichester, met with members of West Sussex Growers’ Association (WSGA) to hear the concerns of the local horticultural industry.
West Sussex has a thriving horticultural industry and produces 13 per cent of the overall UK glasshouse crop production.
Andrew Tyrie and members of the WSGA discussed local transport issues, planning policy, water and electricity supplies, as well as supermarket contracts.
Speaking after the meeting, Andrew Tyrie MP said: “The horticulture industry is hugely important to the local area, employing thousands of people. We must make sure that it continues to make a full contribution to the local economy and jobs.”
John Hall, West Sussex Growers’ Association, said: “We were very pleased to meet with Andrew Tyrie. Growers had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues with him; including planning, seasonal labour, water and improvements to the A27.”
